Frequently Asked Questions

  • Unfortunately, due to current Medicare rules and regulations, we are unable to provide services to patients enrolled in Medicare at this time.  This is true regardless of ability to pay out-of-pocket for services and prescriptions and regardless of any current supplemental plan.  We hope to be able to offer services to patients enrolled in Medicare in the near future, so please continue to check back for any changes!

  • At Revive Health, we specialize in treating patients with pre-existing conditions. This is one of the MAJOR advantages of a medically supervised treatment program. We work closely with the rest of your healthcare team as needed to ensure that we design the best plan to address all health concerns safely. We can also assist in safely adjusting any necessary medications as your health and symptoms improve. Don't be surprised if you no longer need some of your previous prescriptions!

  • Not all weight loss medications meet the same safety and quality standards. It’s important to understand the critical differences between FDA-approved medications and compounded medications - especially as compounded options have become more widely marketed.

FDA-approved medications undergo extensive human clinical trials to evaluate safety, effectiveness, dosing, and long-term outcomes. They are manufactured under strict federal standards that ensure consistent formulation, accurate dosing, and rigorous safety monitoring. These medications are also continuously tracked through national safety systems, allowing for rapid identification of side effects and formal recalls if needed.

Compounded medications are NOT FDA-approved. Compounded versions of weight loss medications do not go through the same level of testing or oversight. This introduces several important concerns:

    • NO LARGE OR LONG-TERM HUMAN TRIALS: Compounded formulations have not been studied for safety or effectiveness in the same way as FDA-approved medications.

    • Increased safety concerns: Emerging reports suggest higher rates of emergency department visits and hospitalizations associated with compounded versions compared to FDA-approved options

    • Limited regulatory oversight: Compounding pharmacies are not held to the same manufacturing, quality control, or monitoring standards as pharmaceutical manufacturers

    • Dose variability and inconsistency: The strength, formulation, and absorption can vary between pharmacies- and even between batches.

    • No standardized recall process: If a safety issue arises, compounded medications are not part of the same structured national recall systems that ensure you are notified.

How can I tell if my medication is FDA-approved?

    • It has a brand name: FDA-approved medications are prescribed under recognizable brand names (such as Wegovy, Ozempic, Zepbound, or Mounjaro). These medications are dispensed in pre-filled pens and/or clearly labeled packaging from the pharmaceutical company.

    • If the label only lists a generic name (like “semaglutide” or “tirzepatide”) without a brand, it is a compounded version.

At Revive Health Medical Weight Loss & Wellness, patient safety is our top priority. For this reason, we do not prescribe compounded weight loss medications. Instead, we use FDA-approved, evidence-based treatments that have been thoroughly studied, consistently manufactured, and closely monitored for safety.

Our goal is not just weight loss, but safe, sustainable, medically responsible care. If you have questions about your options, we’re always here to help guide you.

  • Yes. Appointments can be completed via telehealth if you are located in Minnesota *Please be aware that if you are desiring a medication classified as a controlled substance (i.e. Phentermine, Qsymia, etc), an in-person visit is required by law prior to prescribing.

  • Absolutely. At Revive Health, Chronic Care Management, Menopause and Perimenopause care are all available as stand-alone services for patients. You do not need to enroll in a weight management program to gain long-term health benefits at our clinic.

  • If you are interested in support for both weight loss and menopause care, we recommend starting with a consultation for whichever condition concerns or bothers you most at this time. Because both weight management and menopause care require focused attention, we may recommend scheduling separate appointments for each service to provide the comprehensive, individualized care you deserve in both areas.

  • Upon scheduling your first appointment, you will be sent an email to create your patient portal. Once you have set up your patient portal, you will complete initial check-in questionnaires so we can be prepared for your appointment.

  • Initial 1-hour Weight Management consultation fee is $149 (applied to any Initial Program Cost).

Basic Weight Management Program = $99/Month + Medication costs

Comprehensive Weight Management Programs = Varies based on program chosen

    Menopausal Management = $199/visit.

    Chronic Care Management = $299/visit.

HSA/FSA accepted for all appointment types.

  • Your appointment costs will cover your time with Dr. Schmitz, creating and building your personalized care plan.

Any prescriptions written at Revive Health will be sent to your pharmacy where you will pay any balance not covered by your prescription insurance. These costs typically range from $0 - $199/month, even for patients without insurance coverage.

  • If medication is prescribed, the length of time used will be determined by ongoing conversations with your doctor.

At Revive Health, our goal is to assist you in creating the lifestyle changes that help you guide this decision when you are ready.

  • We work hard to make weight loss medications as affordable as possible for our patients, while still providing name-brand and FDA- approved medication options that ensure your safety.

Average medication pricing typically ranges $25 - $199/month, depending upon the medication chosen.

This allows many individuals to access safe and effective treatment without needing to rely on unregulated compounded medication options with unknown long-term side effects.

  • We are out-of-network with local insurance plans. Patients can, and many do, use their FSA or HSA for their services.

We are also able to provide an invoice for patients to submit to insurance for out-of network reimbursement when available (this is referred to as a Superbill).

In addition, services such as labs, dietician visits, and therapy services can be processed through insurance if preferred. Medications can be processed through insurance at your local pharmacy as well.

Unfortunately, many insurance plans do not cover clinic visits for comprehensive weight loss treatment, even though excess weight is a major driver of chronic disease. For this reason, we’ve chosen not to bill insurance—so we can provide the care that is right for you, not just what’s covered. You get transparent pricing, more time with your doctor, and a truly individualized care plan.

*If you are enrolled in Medicare, please see above.

  • You are never pressured or required to use medication to assist with current symptoms. • No! Anyone can schedule a visit without a referral.
