Medical Weight Management

The Revive Advantage

As opposed to common prescription-only programs, Revive Health offers a proven, physician supported & science-backed weight management program designed to transform your health and your relationship with food in a way that is both sustainable and long-lasting, regardless of your starting point. The majority of our patients don’t need help understanding what a healthy lifestyle looks like - They need a program that supports them in executing a sustainable plan to prioritize themselves.

As an expert in Obesity Medicine, Dr. Schmitz will customize the safest and most effective treatment plan for you, taking into account your medical history, metabolic needs, and previous weight-loss experiences.

If prescription medications are desired, we offer several FDA-approved options as part of our comprehensive, physician-guided program.

For patients who prefer not to utilize medication long term, our program is intentionally designed to support that goal. By addressing the underlying contributors to weight gain - nutrition, metabolism, hormone shifts, stress, sleep, and movement, we help patients build the sustainable behaviors and physiologic improvements needed to reduce or potentially discontinue medication safely over time. Patients have the greatest long-term success when medication is paired with a comprehensive, evidence-based program rather than medication used alone.

Medication For Weight Loss

Designed to Support You for the Long Run

Extensive research shows that lasting weight loss requires long-term support - not short bursts of enthusiasm. Many programs run only 12 weeks and are built around the initial “honeymoon phase,” when everything feels easier. But as time goes on, life gets busy, habits are tested, and that early momentum naturally shifts - often after those programs have already ended and weight regain begins.

That’s why our comprehensive weight management programs at Revive Health Medical Weight Loss & Wellness span 6–12 months, providing accountability, guidance, and medical oversight well beyond the early stages. This allows us to support you through real-world challenges and adapt your plan as your needs evolve.

Throughout your program, we focus on nutrition, physical activity, metabolic health, and sustainable behavior change - helping you build results that last.

At Revive Health, our goal is lasting transformation, not quick fixes. Our outcomes reflect that: 80% of patients continue with us after completing their initial 6-month program, recognizing the value of ongoing, evidence-based support.

For patients who prefer a less intensive approach or already have support in place for nutrition and lifestyle changes, a more simplified, medication-focused care option is also available. The Basic Program includes brief monthly visits with a primary focus on medication management, along with appropriate medical oversight and FDA-approved medications, to ensure care remains safe and effective. This option does not include the in-depth customization or ongoing support offered in our comprehensive programs.

Weight Loss Management

For most individuals seeking weight loss support, a BMI of greater than 25 prior to weight loss is required.

At Revive Health Medical Weight Loss & Wellness, patient safety is our top priority. For this reason, we do not prescribe compounded weight loss medications. Instead, we use FDA-approved, evidence-based treatments that have been thoroughly studied, consistently manufactured, and closely monitored for safety.

Not all weight loss medications meet the same safety and quality standards. It’s important to understand the critical differences between FDA-approved medications and compounded medications - especially as compounded options have become more widely marketed.

FDA-approved medications undergo extensive human clinical trials to evaluate safety, effectiveness, dosing, and long-term outcomes. They are manufactured under strict federal standards that ensure consistent formulation, accurate dosing, and rigorous safety monitoring. These medications are also continuously tracked through national safety systems, allowing for rapid identification of side effects and formal recalls if needed.

Compounded medications are NOT FDA-approved. Compounded versions of weight loss medications do not go through the same level of testing or oversight. This introduces several important concerns:

  • NO LARGE OR LONG-TERM HUMAN TRIALS: Compounded formulations have not been studied for safety or effectiveness in humans in the same way as FDA-approved medications.

  • Increased safety concerns: Emerging reports suggest higher rates of emergency department visits and hospitalizations associated with compounded versions compared to FDA-approved options

  • Limited regulatory oversight: Compounding pharmacies are not held to the same manufacturing, quality control, or monitoring standards as pharmaceutical manufacturers

  • Dose variability and inconsistency: The strength, formulation, and absorption can vary between compounding pharmacies- and even between batches.

  • No standardized recall process: If a safety issue arises, compounded medications are not part of the same structured national recall systems that ensure you are notified.

How can I tell if my medication is FDA-approved?

  • It has a brand name: FDA-approved medications are prescribed under recognizable brand names (such as Wegovy, Ozempic, Zepbound, or Mounjaro). These medications are dispensed in pre-filled pens and/or clearly labeled packaging from the pharmaceutical company.

  • If the label only lists a generic name (like “semaglutide” or “tirzepatide”) without a brand, it is a compounded version.
